Tempest the Storm Dragon

Tempest, the Storm Dragon
WIND/Dragon - Effect/7/2400/2200
Activate this effect by removing from play a total of 2 Dragon-Type or WIND Monster from your hand and/or Graveyard, except this card. Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard. Return this card Special Summoned by this effect to its owner's hand during your opponent's End Phase. Also, activate this effect by sending this card and 1 WIND Monster from your hand to the Graveyard. Add 1 Dragon-Type Monster from your Deck to your hand. When this card is removed from play, add 1 Dragon-Type WIND Monster from your Deck to your hand. The effect of "Tempest, the Storm Dragon" can only be used once per turn.

This is a pretty interesting quick summoning card due to release in Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy, with Wind, Water, Fire, Earth versions of the monster with varying stats.

Pretty interesting card for Phantom Beast Planes, assuming you use Debris Dragon in your build. And of course works nicely for Harpies too, since you can search for Harpy Pet Dragon / Pet Baby Dragon. And of course things are looking up for Dragunities with its monsters as all wind and tons of Dragons. Some things this card enables.

1. Quick summoning from hand/grave. Seems like easy free summon for a 2400 attacker
2. Deck tutor for Dragons, though right now I think best is Debris. (If you use the Earth version, throw Dandylion like a pro and search for Debris)
3. Level 7 makes for easy Drago-Sac / Big Eye xyz material
4. Free summoning combo - pending ruling confirmation

I think even Dragon deck fanatics can start to think if playing multiples of like 2-3 varients of this dragon coupled with good monsters from the respective attributes would work nicely.

Yes, discarding Tidal (Water varient) and Marksman to send a water monster to grave while destroying a card is really pretty boss too. Blaster (Fire varient) with some Volcanic Shell action anyone?

And yes, Earth version for Machina sounds good too, though Redox (Earth varient) is only 1600atk sadly. Remove whatever you discarded to summon Fortress to get out Redox, then Big Eye / Drago-Sac your way to victory! Or you can just discard Redox and another earth to revive any Earth you want, including Fortress himself. This card and its different varients really creates alot of combos for many many decks. I expect them to be Super even in OCG so prices are gonna soar.

PS: Yes, Ophion will stop the combos cold, all you negative "my opponent always has Maxx C/ Veiler so combo fail" players but not as if your opp will always have Ophion on the field right?? Anyway to Ophion players I say, Token sundae them then chain spin them away with Miyabi!

  1. Strange how your post says hand/grave, while the wiki page says hand/field (less good). I hope your version has the real effect, though.

If so, this is the most interesting of the attribute dragons, since most dragons (if not light or dark) are wind (indeed, Debris, but also Dragunities).

    1. Its hand/grave, I usually dont rely on Shriek/Wikia and translate it on my own, since both have been known to be wrong before lol

  2. Your combo doesnt work. All of this card's effect(including other copy) can only be activate once per turn. Please refer to Mermail Abyssdine.

    1. I guess I could refer also to Reaper of Prophecy, where somehow even though it has the same text, it gets to activate 3 times within the same turn for its 3 different effects, even though it has the same text as Mermail Abyssdine. So it could mean each individual effect is different?

Though even with the above example I guess there's a good chance that it will follow the Mermail Abyssdine ruling so I will update the post. Thanks for noticing~
It's still a pretty darn good card though lol

    2. Reaper of prophecy's effect all activate at the same time and its treated as one effect.

  3. DSummon, will this variant work on chaos dragon as that deck play debris too?

    1. Sure, why not? Problem is just what other monsters will you use, since only Debris alone might not be sufficient?

  4. I see the effect stated "except this card"

Is there still a chance that to remove Tempest A and wind monster to summon Tempest B?? Since the effect stated cannot remove Tempest, the Storm Dragon. Correct me If I am wrong..

    1. Effect states this card, so yes, you can remove Tempest A to summon Tempest B

  5. Dsummon, you might want to include treasure swords of seven stars in the combo list. So much pluses!

    1. Sounds good, though you would want to play a build that plays more 7 stars

  6. You might want to do another check of everything. The original effects posted on Shriek were wrong, and as it turns out the only one that searches a dragon with the discard effect is Tempest. The discard effect for the Fire on destroys a card, the Water one is Foolish Burial, and the Earth one is Monster Reborn from your Graveyard!

The other effects (search a corresponding attribute dragon when banished, summon by banishing 2 from hand or grave, and return to your hand at the opponent's end phase) are still the same all around, though, which is great!

    1. Ah, i generally checked the effects and they looked similar, so i didnt go through word for word. Thanks for pointing out.

I think they are even better now though lol. Tidal is no longer imbal to be used in Mermail while Earth version becomes extra awesome, now that low atk makes sense lol

  7. These dragons are super awesome, can be used in any deck playing the attribute. More kudos for Fire and Earth, destruction and Special summon are always the key words of this game.

    1. Yup its correct. Its not exactly overpowered per say, because all the effects only take place during the end phase, so you have to wait another turn before you can use the cards.

Furthermore once you activate it, your opponent is sure to not activate any magic cards for you so yeah, its good, but still not extremely overpowered
