Y u no put Tourguide!?

Firstly, the decks made here are based on the OCG. We try to avoid using TCG exclusives unless it is something really fun and original such as DSummon's Kara Black Kuri utilizing Karakuri Shinkuro in a Jinzo Future Fusion deck.

Even if I were to use Tourguide here in OCG environment, it would not work the same because we are playing by different rules. I am of course talking about detaching Sangan.

What I am trying to say is, it is irritating to see the constant
"Why not put Tourguide in this deck?"
"How will this deck match against other Tourguide decks?"

Don't you TCG readers feel the same? Every deck you make will be scrutinized and you will receive the same "y u no put tourguide!?"

  1. I agree w/ u Baha. I somehow wonder why people force themselves to put 3 Tourguides to their deck (despite of her price). I know she is so abusable if we run Leviair-Sangan combo. However, I will try to make a good deck without buying "too expensive" cards. Honestly, I won't spend $200 just to buy a single card. I would rather use the same amount to buy lots of other supporting cards. Nice posting and keep on writing :)

  2. The big problem is the blind players that just copy decks and strategies... They are now all desperate cause the metagame is changing... Those players don't even play atention that the only monster in the entire game that is worth to use with tourguide is sangan. Nobody question what happens if sangan cames first, or after sangan's combo, will the rest be dead draw?
Players are paying 600$ in 3 dead draw cards!

  3. THANK YOU. I've been seeing nothing but Tour Guide in decks that don't utilize it outside of Sangan, which is, in my opinion, a major waste! If you're going to run Tour Guide in a Fiend-deck, that's fine, but don't shove it in any deck you see :/

  4. Tour Guide is worth all the hype and all the money. It's like one step below Substitoad, in terms of being good. Drawing Sangan first doesn't even matter too much.

Tour Guide decks will almost always beat non Tour Guide decks. The advantage is too much to be ignored

  5. @1st Anonymous: Tour Guide can Special Summon Sangan from the hand as well, so even if you draw Sangan you still break even.

  6. funny thing is that while everyone is saying that decks without tour guide are not good, decks with a specific theme, like six samurais, will still own those so called tour guide decks without using tour guides of their own as well black luster

  7. yeah a simple Tatami Flip will screw those 200$ cards

It just shows how much the TCG and OCG meta have diverted because of the Xyz rulings.

They think Guide-Sangan loops are imba, I'd rather invest in the ZombiePhoenix-OTK because of storm and MST...

  8. Wow ok i think in the other post i was the first in say tour guid in this deck but it was a sugestion you know its ok if you dont whant to play it

  9. This blog post don't intend to sound offensive but its something I've observed even in TCG forums.

  10. I think what offends me most about Tour Guide is the fact that it's combo is so mindless. The only decision to be made is to Xyz into Leviair or Leviathan.

With Reborn Tengu, you can at least do different combos with it and there's a high chance of him being a dead draw/mill.

However, when using Tour Guide, the only real way to be Dead is if you draw/mill all 3 and Sangan (in which case you should probably just scoop right there). It doesn't promote deck diversity in any way and is simply a ridiculously overpowered card used to make mindless pluses and expand the gap between budget players and player who can afford to throw cash around even further.

It doesn't help that Konami likes making stupid crazy Rank 3 monsters (derp Acid Golem let's you run over Scrap Dragon with just a normal summon).

  11. "It doesn't help that Konami likes making stupid crazy Rank 3 monsters (derp Acid Golem let's you run over Scrap Dragon with just a normal summon). "
Its OCG which makes them, and the TCG just wants to make it crazier with their rulings and exclusives

  12. "Tour Guide is worth all the hype and all the money." haha...seriously, with all do respect, that is one of the dumbest statements I have had to digest from yugioh this past year. I have my playset. Yes it is good. But NO, IT IS NOT worth the money, unless you are a loser of course. I got the set when each was at 40. To justify the recent inflated price for each says one of two things: 1) You are dumb and 2) You are dumb - of course, you decide. Additionally, Konami is not above changing the rulings...look at cyberstein mid format change and former R. oppression ruling. However, I do give you credit for giving my friends and I a good laugh..."...worth all the hype and all the money" rofl

  13. Tour Guide is good, and decks with it have an edge over non-Tour Guide decks by always being able to set up faster BUT it is not like an autoloss.

Go for that Chain Disappearance, that Skill Drain, or Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror. It is not an unbeatable combo, and you won't win simply by pulling it.

  14. Tour Guide is an incredibly strong early-game play, just like Duality is.
Other than that, its overhyped...Tour Guide doesn't win games.

  15. Tour Guide is good but not worth more than 40 USD/EUR (imo). So all this fuss is thanks to Kevin, who recently deleted his posts on FB or Twitter. And the TCG rulings aren't confirmed yet so I think Konami will rule it as World Championship 2011 (I will rule it like that in my local tournament). Tengu and Sangan do not activate their effect as Exceed Material, when they are detached.

If this rule is confirmed then the price of Tour Guide will get hit =3

  16. ...seriously, why are people so bad? Clearly, neither of you played Tour Guide.

Tour Guide adds a lot of constinency to every deck, and allows them to go explosive first turn. Who doesn't like Turn 1 2500 beatstick? Or, with Gold Sarcophagus and going into Leviair, you can get any Level 4 or lower monster from deck. Tour Guide is ridiculously broken, it has so many applications.

Why are you all saying "Tour Guide" decks? Tour Guide is a tech people play to improve the deck's constinency. They're NOTE decks based around Tour Guide.

Tour Guide has only 2 really good targets. Broww, but that's only because Grapha, and Sangan. TCG doesn't yet have new Dark World cards. Therefore, people play 3 Tour Guide and 1 Sangan in all their decks to make them better.

It's a standpoint to dedicated TCG played, who supports the new ruling by Kevin Tewart. I bet all other GOOD TCG players would say the same.

  17. ...pardon me the typos in my previous comment

  18. Not worth the money. I built a $60 empty jar deck that went 6-0 vs. our locals best lightsworn player, 5-1 vs. tour guide tengu, and on and on...for $60.

  19. We see some retards saying Mike Bon is bad.

If you want to win, even if Tour Guide is at $6000, you should buy it.

    1. Charge of the light brigade (2009(? I forgot))

  22. Bottom line is that TCG's exceed rulings suck. End of story.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The entire TCG sucks you mean!XD

    ReplyDelete
  24. exceed TCG rulings = Enjoy
    exceed OCG rulings = Boring

    ReplyDelete
  25. exceed TCG rulings = profit
    fixed

  26. Exceed TCG rulings = We don't know how to make cards that work right, so we change the rules.

    ReplyDelete
  27. And it can also be said that , once we will have Rescue Rabbit and Evolkaiser Lagia , it will be even more broken : Activate Gold Sarcophagus removing Rescue Rabbit => Tour Guide into Sangan => Xyz leviair dragon and activate his effect summoning Rescue Rabbit from RFG => get another Rescue Rabbit from the deck with Sangan's effect , and use Rabbit to Rabbit to make a lagia

So yes , our ruling needs to change the fastest possible .

For those complaining about the price , you just had to buy TGU when she was 35 € , as it would have been clever to buy Solem Warning when it was 15 €.

  28. The ruling will change. Because the whole concept behind Exceed was to stop the abuse, to prevent them from going the same way as Synchro?

    ReplyDelete
  29. As for germany - we play with the OCG rulings. If american players want to screw there game (and wallet xD) with rulings that are not confirmed or official, it's their problem. The only official document, that Teward released, was the ruling for the worlds.

So in germany - all is fine and tourguide is not (that) broken. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. At the end of the day dark hole, otk or just counter the set up cause all your plays in a tour guide deck are predictable. Tour guide feel is so slow, its a normal to go plus one, but everyone forgets synchro and xyz is an inherent negative and more so an actual one when you get a card on the field that has no presence..... oh and compulse, my go Cauis lol

  31. I have no access to that facebook page where Kevin Tewart posted his controversial comment, but if what Haku said was true.....

Kevin Tewart admitted he already made a mistake!! YES!!! he admitted he made a mistake!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @GRIMLOCK:

Where did Tewart say that he made a mistake? Hearing from this the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Kevin Tewart deleted his post on his own free will, then that would mean something,

why delete it? if he was really sure about the ruling he made regarding Xyz??

That looks like an indirect way of saying he made a mistake.....

  34. Oh yeah. let's start saying im italian, then i can continue. I'll start a project named "a tour project" (yeah, i'm soo original, lol) that will be cutted in two steps.
Step 1: Put Tour Guide (with TCG ruling) in EVERY deck, i did it on antimeta, skill drain, even trap monster deck and so on. This isn't to motivate Tour Guide in every deck, but to say that she is a card that can be used in deck that can work without her.
Step 2: Drop Tour Guide from EVERY deck (except Tour Guide based deck), like agent chaos. This to say that Tour Guide can be dropped for budget decklist.
If anyone want to join to this project, mail me on ATourProject@gmail.com
P.s. this project says that tour guide TCG ruling will probably changed because of her own engine splashable in every deck [3 Tour Guide+1 Sangan+(optional, for chaos build or for antimeta like build) Effect Veiler+(optional, for chaos builds) BLS/Chaos Sorcerer]

    ReplyDelete
  35. So heres a question for you then...

If you were forced to live and play in the TCG, what deck would you be playing?

I think many people would enjoy seeing a decklist and input that applies to your TCG fans :3

    ReplyDelete
  36. As some ppl have said you put tour guide in your deck not because it's a tour guide deck but because it improves your consistency by insta-searching any 1500- atk combo piece for your deck while at the same time leaving a 2500 beatstick on the field.

You can also use the extended engine (3 tours-1 sangan-2 or 3 gold sarc) to make ridiculous plays with levair searching any 1500- atk AND summoning any lvl 4- from your deck. Specially effective in lightsworns with the latest banlist.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Jeff Jones: TBH, if it is for the sake of being competitive in the TCG I would also run Tourguide and probably with Agents. (yay for tier whoring)

  38. It's a terrible shame that the meta game has come down to this, especially since I love your recent Junk Doppel deck. I made a variant of it myself, minus Tour Guide for TCG land.

I'm just praying that, come Sept. 1st, the ruiling in TCGland mirrors that in OCGland. I know, I'm asking a lot for those in charge of doing this to equate our two games in this manner, since it makes little if any sense at all to have such a divide between TCG and OCG. Simple card ruling differences are acceptable (like the difference in rulings on D.D. Survivor, for example). Such a rule difference that completely reshapes the way a mechanic that was SUPPOSED to bring some balance into the game works is unhealthy as all hell for a card game.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Actually personally, I probably wont bother with Tour Guides even if I play TCG. But then again as usual, Im the one who who always comes up with the crazy stuff, so lol.

Like seriously, cant see what Tour Guide + Sangan can do for Machina Karakuri other then fetch Veiler or some other tuner to hand which totally doesnt sound exciting. Its probably just a matter of the decks that you play and if the combo fits in. If a player comes down to just abusing a combo just cause its strong with no regard to how it fits in a deck, then that player might as well not even play any deck at all.

As always, my mandate is to have a deck of your own and play it well, rather then just copy the latest fan deck and hope to succeed with it, cause it will never work as well for you.

  40. 90 Percent of TCG Duelists Are NetdeckersAugust 28, 2011 at 5:42 PM

Thankfully I live in OCG-territory so Exceed Summoning and its rules isn't complicated.

"As always, my mandate is to have a deck of your own and play it well, rather then just copy the latest fan deck and hope to succeed with it, cause it will never work as well for you." - very accurate statement.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ^ Whoah, easy on the accusations there, buddy. You're doing it wrong. It's more like, "90% of American TCG duelists are netdeckers, and they can't make original decks unless they have TCG Exclusives" since we're not sure of other TCG Territories' Meta.

Back to the subject, for those who don't/can't/won't incorporate Tour Guide in your decks for a variety of reasons, it's no problem. It DOES NOT mean Tour Guide Deck duelists are better than you, they just had more money to spend on an overhyped card and are more willing to follow the herd - because they can't do better.
