Update to DuelingDays Draw Whore 2013

So... All has been quiet here since we came back from Thailand. To be honest, I have been testing out some decks on YgoPro, such as an updated Karakuri deck, Mecha Phantom Beast with the new JOTL cards, and even a Rock Scrap Transturn deck. (Gogogo Golem Transturn into Scrap Golem is totally legit lol)

Problem is, aside from the Karakuri which still has a fighting chance due to its ability to make Crimson Blader, none of them can really survive on YgoPro, which is filled with Dragons and Prophecy all over. So without much of a choice... Back to the Draw Whore!

Updated deck list when you click on~

Monster [33]

[3] Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders
[2] Reactan, Dragon Ruler of Pebbles
[3] Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls
[1] Stream, Dragon Ruler of Droplets
[3] Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos
[2] Burner, Dragon Ruler of Sparks
[3] Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms
[2] Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts
[1] Karakuri Strategist Nishipachi
[3] Karakuri Barrel Shinkuro
[1] Dread Dragon
[1] Flamevell Guard
[3] Effect Veiler
[3] Maxx "C"
[2] Droll & Lock Bird

Spell [12]

[1] Heavy Storm
[3] Gold Sarcophagus
[1] Monster Reborn
[1] Treasured Sword of the Seven Stars
[3] Super Rejuvenation
[1] Book of Moon
[2] Book of Eclipse

Deck combo works the same as before, you can read more on it here. However, there have been various changes made to improve on stability. And of course the previous build was made before the release of Burner and Lightning. Here are the various changes made.

Removal of Psychic Engine
- Basically on the suggestion by Baha, 1 Dread Dragon works tons better then the 5 Psychic cards. For the main reason that you can basically tutor it through Blaster. With 3 Gold Sarc and of course basically just drawing Blaster on your own, chances are actually pretty high of getting your tuner, of course besides drawing Shinkuro itself.

Removal of REDMD, Delta-Fly, Return from DD etc
- Were pretty good. But dont really do much for the combo, so removed for consistency.

Hand Traps
- With the additional space freed up goes in the hand traps. Maxx "C" for Dragon matches and Droll Lock for Prophecy matches. Droll Lock actually works ok against Dragons (Prevents Reju and earning from Sword) And of course prevents getting Maxx C against yourself (Though only when you are not doing the draw 6. If you are trying to do the main combo and u get hit by Maxx "C" you should stop or do something else instead of blindly going through since you cant draw with Droll Lock anyway)

Still 1 Strategist
- Despite many TCG players opinions, im sticking to 1 Strategist so that I dont draw 2 all the time, totally going to happen for me.

Book of Eclipse
- Mainly against the Prophecy match. Helps to set their field down so they cant use Fate. Also works as a counter against Jowgen / Kycoo. Some people would say why not Dark Hole instead, but i prefer it as a 'trap' since it also works nicely in Dragon matches, when i lock down my opponent's Big Eye like a normal Book of Moon. Stops Simon and also doesnt target which gets around alot of stuff like Master of Blades.

Celestial/Starform Dragon vs Master of Blades vs Simon the Great Moral Leader
- Celestial is useful currently as there are people playing stuff like Simon. And of course it helps to get over anything bigger then Blaster. However Master of Blades is pretty good as its a 1 card self-stopping Big Eye and Drago-Sack. Simon is not bad too since Dragons cant do much to it. It even survives LADD if you use it! But I dont really like locking 3 dragons under him. Anyway the other 2 are not released yet so Celestial it is for now.

Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
- Good when you start second and still pull off the combo anyway. However depending on situation, like your opponent having alot of cards set which he/she is somehow not using, Overlord at least forces them to be open. If not you can just release Tomahawk and Strategist to clear stuff. Or of course vs Drago-Sack, just Heliopolis to clear stuff while your last monster is Crimson Blader instead to hit through.

Colossal Fighter
- To make against opponent's Crimson Blader and steal away to hit them instead. And of course works well if I somehow end up fighting a mirror match to clear Bureidos. Still in testing.

Karakuri Burei
- Honestly, not sure why alot of TCG players i have seen testing this deck dont use it. This deck actually has an alternate version combo against an opponent's set card which you can use Burei to pull off the combo still. Not to mention against Dragon matches, turning your opponent's tokens to attack mode through Burei plus Strategist makes for a pretty painful attack :)

Alt combo:
1. Make Drago-Sack and 2 tokens
2. Tribute Drago-Sack itself to clear threat
3. Summon Flamevell Guard or Veiler to make Burei and summon Shinkuro
4. Call out another Dragon by whatever method, proceed to draw 6~

And thats about the whole deck explained. Deck works smoother compared to previously (Addition of Burner and Lightning helps obviously). As always, feel free to modify the deck to fit your meta. Hope you enjoy the updated build!

PS: Let me know if you end up taking it to your tournaments or even WCQ, I would like to hear how it worked for you!

    1. Im confused. Do you want to find a pure Dragon Ruler or a pure Karakuri? lol

    2. no, what I want is to use the deck of this post, I wanted some tip to handle the dragon rule

    3. Anti Dragon Rulers? Just have Maxx C in hand lol. So just try to win dice roll, start and draw 6 at least. Good chance for some Maxx C and Veilers hopefully.

Also if you start 2nd and he has something on the field for you to Crimson Blader against, just make double Bureidos and Crimson Blader. Even if its a Drago-Sack you can use the 2 Bureidos to hit the tokens, then Crimson Blader the Drago-Sack.

If he doesnt have Dark Hole or any such stuff, you can just attack for game next turn~ Assuming nothing funny happens of course.

  2. DSummon, could you show an updated version of your pure Karakuri decklist? Or has it not changed from the one a few months ago?

    1. Minor changes. Basically changing of traps to mass stuff like Eclipse also. Adding in another Solar Wind Jammer to "counter" LADD. And also adding of 2 Droll & Lock. Basically about similar to the Draw Whore various choices.

Tested Transturn and its pretty good, but only if you have Merchant. Anything else equals to a minus 1, not exactly preferred when you fight in a meta which everyone has extra cards from their grave lol.

I will post it up eventually, but not any real major changes i would say.

  3. Why no Gorz or Trag to stop OTK?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Both not Dragons so kinda disrupts consistency? Trago is not good to play here since your hand size will be low (Assuming combo cant go off or you wont need trago anyway). As for Gorz, I was never a believer in it. Not to mention there are enough non-dragon cards in this deck as it is currently.

    1. Sure, will post up what I built soon. Do note of course it still has not much of a fighting chance against Dragons / Prophecy. Those 2 aside its still pretty decent i guess, though still abit slow.

  5. What are some decks do you use to counter dragon ruler and prophecy? THEY ARE TOO OP

    1. Erm, we dont try to counter lol. Too low chance of succeeding.

    2. So there are no good decks to go against these two decks or the only chance of goin against these two is to play one of these decks?

  7. Hi, nice deck ! But Big Eye and Dracossack are a little expensive for me ;/

  8. Hey DS, I have been playing a card called Chamenleon http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Chamenleon and I was wondering what is your opinion about using this card and combo it with Machina Gearframe in a machina gadget deck. I was testing it inside a Tin Gadget Deck with 2 Machina Gearframe and 2 Chamenleon and the searchers Gear Giant X and King Feral Imp and I love this card because you can Synchro and summon a Crimson Blader. Y U NO check it out? Maybe you could get some more ideas around this card

    1. BTW if you want I could give you an image with my testing about that deck

    2. You pretty much had the idea i had already, or more like thats the only way to use it lol.

    3. At least if you intend to use it with machines

    4. Yeah, and also I was wondering about using Photon Thrasher for improve Gadget Engine and Chamenleon but I need to make lots of decks to make an almost perfect one lol, the only problem i found here is when you want to use Kagetokage, there are too much monsters at deck and it will became a full monster gadget lol

Hey DS check this version, I added Photon Thrasher and I would appreciate if you check this and give me your opinion
      http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/8315/chamengadget.png
The main engine is taking advantage of the effect of Chamenleon mainly by having Machina Gearframe at graveyard or even Photon Thrasher

    6. Looks not bad, just not pretty sure the trap options might be good enough for the current meta. You might want to go abit more hatred towards Dragons and Prophecy with cards like Iron Wall in main. No effect Veilers in main?

You should probably consider maining Kagetokage too, since Photon Thrasher and Tinplate Goldfish will both clash with Chamenleon. Quite difficult for you to get out cards like Shock Ruler which is pretty strong in current meta.

      Delete
    7. I was considering using Kagetokage too but it will be like a heavy monster deck, but maybe could work if I remove some traps from the deck. Maybe 1 or 2 Kagetokages should be enough, right?.
In this case I'm not maining Veilers because I prefer using Maxx "C" instead (against Dragon Rulers and other stuff).

BTW I have been thinking about modifying some cards from the side deck and using cards like DNA Surgery (against Prophecy, 4-axis Fire Fist, etc) and Mind Drain

As you mentioned, which trap options for the deck you recommend me? (For main and side deck please)

      Delete
    8. Yup, just a couple of Kagetokages will do.

You need both Maxx C and Veilers lol. Plus Veilers are good against Prophecy. Alternatively Swift Iron Scarecrow for Naturia Beast with Chamenleon which is great against Prophecy.

If you're going full out against all those things might as well just go Zombie World lol, doesnt affect you as much. Then just side out the Machinas maybe?

Traps wise i would go with stuff like CED, and considering you are using Gadgets maybe even PWWB/Raigeki Break since you will have the spare hand for it. I just personally dislike especially reactive traps like D-Prison.

This is the version 2 of this deck
      http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/4133/chamendeck.png
Im using two of each gadget and modified the side deck. But I see some issues at first hand for example: Redox+Kagetotage+Veiler+Scarecrow+PWWB. I should use three of each gadget doesn't it? And in that case which cards should i remove?

      Delete
    10. Depends on you actually. I personally like 2 gadgets since i find it clogs hands (I always draw 2-3 in my first hand). At this point of time, i think it would be better if you tune in on your end and decide what you want to focus on.

E.g. Maybe you will want to drop the Redox since your deck is abit more on Xyz focus rather then to flood field?

Really depends on your preference as well as the meta around you, etc

  9. Could you please profile the mecha phantom beast profile? I'm very interested to see how well they can do with the new synchro support

    1. I have 2 different builds for them actually. 1 is the usual MPBP deck for token farming and abuse of Harriad and Coltwing through Scramble, the other is through Blue Impulse and farming for Bureis with tokens through Watchdog to otk. Will try to feature one of them soon~
