Day 3 at Worlds (Event day 1)

Managed to get wifi access at the event hall! Keep checking here for live updates along the day~
For photos of the players, check out the blog post below!

Updates as of 9pm local time <- Final update for the day
(Top 8 results are out, happy scrolling down!)

Morning of the big day! Everyone took a quick breakfast and began gathering at the lobby to take the bus.

Interesting arrangement by the staff though. They only ordered 1 bus, with the 2nd bus only coming half hour later, and they needed all players to be on the 1st. In the end, all the Konami head honchos were all stuck with us at the lobby. In the end, they called a couple of cabs, while the rest of us were stuck waiting.

Finally here at the event hall! Event hall is pretty big with quite alot of things going on, such as win a mat, dragon duels, promo packs, even make a token! Pretty interesting stuff for me, though may be the usual stuff for TCG players I guess.

1st place prize card

2nd - 4th place prize card

1st place card effect:
King Landia the Goldfang
Light / Beast-Warrior / Rank 8
3000/2500
3 lv 8 monstera to summon this
Must be xyz summoned and cannot be special summoned by other ways. If this card attacks your opponent direct and reduces their life points to 0, while it had an xyz material attached that was originally beast warrior type, you win the match

2nd place card effect:
Queen Nereia the silvercrown
Light / Plant / Rank 6
2500/2400
3 level 6 monsters to summon this
Must be xyz summoned and cannot be special summoned by other ways. If this card attacks your opponent direct and reduces their life points to 0, while it had an xyz material attached that was originally plant type, you win the match

Large Stardust statue. Soon to change to Hope / Utopia maybe?

Win a mat event registration

Token printing booth - I'm so going there later lol

Game experience corner. Not very popular though

Briefing and lining up of players for the showcase

Player showcase! About 10.45am local time

Speech by KDE Europe boss Mr Kunio (hope spelling's correct)

Deck pro for this year. Same as last year just that now it's red instead of blue.

Judges finishing up the deck checks

And Match 1 finally begins at 11.45am!

Some fan service for my fellow countrymen lol

FYI for those not sure on tournament format. Today will be playing 5 round Swiss at 60 mins per round. They will cut to top 8 which will be played tomorrow in a single Elimination format

The selections of token designs available and something I made for myself lol.

Round 1 is over and break till 1.30pm for pasta lunch.

Quick updates for the Asia players.
Taiwan won
Philippines won
Singapore lost
Malaysia won
Hong kong lost
Thailand lost

And of course as photo above shows, our previous world champ is as strong as ever, taking game 1.

Quick photo in between matches with our DuelingDays fans, Haku and Raul~

Really elaborate cosplay, something i would never see in Singapore.

And round 2 starts at 1.30pm sharp! Pairings above

Not forgetting our NDS tournament on the other side of the stage. Though honestly nothing much to report since nobody knows what's going on.

Interesting ruling made at the start though. If for any reason the NDS goes under the table, it's a march lost. Not sure what can be done under the table though lol

Interesting shuffling ruling for TCG which Asia readers should know. Apparently in TCG, after you shuffle your own deck, then your opponent shuffles, you can actually cut the deck as long as your opponent cuts it again. This is unlike in Asia where it normally ends after your opponent shuffles/cuts. TCG's version opens room for possible cheating in my opinion, since I could do card marking on my deck and choose to cut it or not when I see you have shuffled to a card that I want or not? Well, really just an opinion, since we got the situation earlier.

Raul getting an interview.

And round 2 is over! Updates on Asia players.

Malaysia won
Singapore won
Taiwan lost
Thailand won
Hong kong lost
Philippines lost

Round 3 begins! Time 2.45pm. As I mentioned in the comments section, please refer to the following round's pairings to see the previous round's results, especially since I have no other way to get the results aside from asking 1 by 1 which is alot of work

Updates for round 3 results

NDS final standings after day 1

Final briefing at the end of day 1. Event finally ended with the last swiss round ending at about 6.15pm and results were announced by about 6.30pm. Tired out and hungry, everyone headed back to the hotel for dinner and rest.

So thats about it! Tried to put up the final bit of photos but my iPhone finally died after doing alot of work the entire day. Have decided to bring my charger tomorrow in case I need it. Hoping my camera batteries last though, cause I didnt bring a charger since I have 3 batteries fully charged which is usually more then enough for a week's trip. However, 2 already died cause Im using Eye-fi. If they die you guys will have to settle for iPhone camera quality photos, apologises.

  9. Thanks for the mention DSummon, was a pleasure meeting you today. Hope you like the custom Karakuri, I personally think Red looks better on them than brown. Hope to see you in side events tomorrow, hope the Machina Force comes in handy too. :)

  11. Cant really do feature matches since I am assisting with translations for Singapore and Taiwan's representatives so will be occupied. However, I intend to video the finals to put on youtube, depending on if im allowed (Just the tv screen). Actually brought my tripod here, will see how that goes.
