Machiner Fortress Review

Hi Everyone! Yup, im home and relaxed so this is a great change for once. However, why is this post late, when i promised it will be done by the weekend? Well, my fellow blogger mate said that he wanted his deck results to have some time to showcase first, so this post is a few days late, dont mind yah?

Anyway, as the title says, this post is about the new shiny foil card coming out in the latest structure deck on 12th December! (OOP: Not even sure why it is mentioned by the November tournament organizers it cant be used when it is not even released yet. DUH......) Anyway, here's the effect first, provided by shriek.

Machiners Fortress
EARTH/Machine - Effect/7/2500/1600
You can discard Machine-Type monsters whose Levels total 8 or more to Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, select 1 card your opponent controls and destroy it. Also, when this face-up card you control is targeted by the effect of an opposing Effect Monster, look at your opponent's hand and discard 1 card from it.

My original idea that this card's only strong point was its special summon ability, but after Baha pointed out how its stats can just nice fit the many synchro monsters which are used now, well, the other effects aint so bad after all. Looking at effects 1 by 1.

1. Special Summon Ability
Well, this card fits well in only 1 viable machine deck at the moment. *Drum Roll...* Antique Gears! Antique Gears have Golem and Dragon to access to for a level 8, and they actually work good in grave, considering Antique gear ultimate golem, as well as gear town (Go read them up and think on them thanks) However, with the limited machine options for high levels, there arent many left to consider that are useful. The ONLY other machine monster that actually has grave synergy is Bolt Hedgehog. (Yes, look at that card in your Junk & Debris deck, it IS a machine) So, 1 way to do it, is you can discard itself and a bolt hedgehog from your hand to summon it out, so your cost is minimal (TCG does that for Dragon Ice, so it should be legal)

2. Destroy by Battle ability
Initial opinion: This card is already so big, how to die by battle siah.
After further thought: Ok, at least this card wont get hit by goyu and suddenly appear on opponent field. If goyu hits it, just zap his goyu and you're safe. (No earth smash jokes, we already know them too well thanks) And well, if somehow you get hit by honest / BF's dishonest, then at least you drag something down with you too. He uses 2 cards, you use 1, advantage! Then stats allow it to stay alive by stardust, so no stardust smack then negate its ability, so its cool~

3. Target by Effect Monster ability
Initial opinion: How many effect monsters can out there that actually target siah..
After further thought: Ok, abit more then I thought I guess in the metagame. Lightlord Ryoko is 1 of them. Smack into defense monsters, if its a ryoko, at least you get free confiscation when it dies. Same goes for monsters like Brionac, snipe hunter, GB's fish/contact and smash 2 card nonsense. Unfriendly monsters will be stuff like DD assailant, D. warrior girl, etc

So in all, not a bad card. Its 2nd and 3rd effect are not bad against the many current metagame effect monsters, and its special summon ability it cool stuff (Which I would have bought the card for just for its first ability). Now is just to hope that in this SD comes some other 8 star good machine / machine with grave synergy to combo with this card! Next up in a few days? Random hate post~

Edit: Woohoo, I went to compare the text with demon roar Raven, apparently you will be able to discard a Jinzo and a Jinzo returner to summon this, then revive back the Jinzo, cool stuff! Guess my Jinzo deck can use this as well. For reference, please note links Demon Roar God-Raven and Machiners Fortress
